Char's Septet Game

Post by wordtamer »

We used to play this at poetrypoems and mistakenly had called it Char's Cinquain game, but it isn't 5 lines it's seven so I've renamed it.
Char (cnoto) introduced it to us there and we had a lot of fun with it as the game can take many twists and is just plain fun and good writing exercise.

Here's how it works:

Note the format:
l1 - 2 syllables
l2 - 4
l3 - 6
l4 - 8
l5 - 6
l6 - 4
l7 - 2

When you add yours start with the last line of the prior entry.

Here is a sample of what we had written at poetrypoems so you can see how the game works.

two hearts
that beat as one
the rhythmic song of love
until we dance love's sweetest dance
beneath the starry skies
and intertwined
we kiss

Thank you, John! You explained it perfectly!

we kiss
my heart skipping
rhythm slightly changing
rapid tango's sultry beating
even stars are joining
deeply breathing
our love

Our love,
as deep as skies
with such sweet mysteries;
bright hopes and dreams and falling stars
so lovely to behold
to contemplate
to hold

and so forth - we had pages and pages of this stuff. I'll start us off in the next post.

the skies
explode with stars
all winking down at me
and I, standing in the center
whirl around to see all
creation smile
tonight

(you'll start your entry with 'tonight')
lets see if we can get this game going :)

Tonight
Stars disappear
But the light is still there
A pale white moon has been revealed
Black, it covers the sky
Cloaking the soft
White clouds

Nice job, but don't forget you have to start with the last line of the previous post.

White clouds
Move silently
across the brilliant sky
Forming shapes that i recognize
A rabbit and tortoise
racing across
The blue

The blue
endless expanse
draws my eyes to heaven
and in the night, the velvet skies
still hold my tired gaze
to see the gleam
of stars

Of stars
And pixy dust
Are the dreams of children.
Chasing dragons and a baseball
One day their dreams will die
This day though: Fly
Dreamers!
Just another malcontent, looking to make a name for himself.
That being said, by defualt I would appreciate critique. It's hard for me to get better if I'm not tested.

Dreamers!
heads in the sand
of never never land
imagining eternal youth
while their heads turn gray
youth runs away
with hope

With hope
I beg the God
Above to forgive me.
"Please show me your infinite love.
Another chance, one more."
I grovel once
Again
Just another malcontent, looking to make a name for himself.

With hope
my heart embarks
to sail on love unfeigned,
beyond the distant galaxies
where passion dwells unchained,
where truth remarks:
'elope!'
Only when something is worth dying for is it worth living for...

elope
a father's hope
so he won't have the bill
for wedding vows and photographs
and fancy reception
